Local law firm celebrates 50 years of practicing law and involvement with the community
BEAUMONT, TX – Provost Umphrey Law Firm, L.L.P. invites the community to join its attorneys and staff for a tailgating event at Lamar University on Saturday, September 7, commemorating the firm’s 50 years of partnership with Lamar University and involvement in the community.
Since 1969, Provost Umphrey Law Firm and its lawyers have been active members of the community and continue to be long-standing patrons of Lamar University. In 2009, firm founder, Walter Umphrey, and his wife Sheila provided financial resources to launch the construction of the Sheila Umphrey Recreational Sports Center. That same year the firm and its equity partners contributed $4 million to the university for the renovation of the stadium which now bears its name – Provost Umphrey Stadium. This contribution helped facilitate the return of NCAA football to the University after a 21-year hiatus.
“Our firm tries cases and gets justice for those who have been wronged, but we are also invested in this community and its members,” says Joe Fisher, Provost Umphrey managing partner. “We want to celebrate this milestone with the community that has continued to embrace our firm for the past five decades”.
The law firm’s community-wide tailgate begins at 2 p.m. at Lamar’s Provost Umphrey Stadium located at 4400 S M L King Jr Pkwy, in Beaumont. Grilled lunches and cold beverages will be served; there will be music and a washer tournament. The tournament will begin at 3 p.m. Teams will play in a single-elimination tournament with both winners receiving a Yeti Roadie 20. Signing up for this event will take place at the Provost Umphrey Tailgate tent located in lot A5 in the student section.
Admission to this tailgate is free and open to the public. There will be prizes and giveaways throughout the event.
At 6 p.m. that evening, the Lamar University Cardinals will take on the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils. At halftime, the partners of Provost Umphrey Law Firm will present an endowment check for $50,000 to Lamar University President, Dr. Kenneth Evans in honor of the firm’s 50th anniversary. Also, in attendance will be the first recipient of the Provost Umphrey 50th Anniversary Scholarship, Lamar student, Linda Pham. This endowment will continue to help Lamar students with tuition for years to come.
